When should I call after a first date?

This Friday, I have a first date with a guy I met while online dating on this site. I already have the guys number, he gave it to me when we were chatting online, but I haven't ever called him and don't plan to until I met him since I don't want to give him my number through caller-ID. On our first date Friday, lets say everything goes well, which I really think will happen since when we chatted online he seemed really cool, when should I call after our first date. Or in general, when should I call after a first date? Knowing when to call after a first date seems like a question that would have an easy answer but, its a question I've always struggled with. If there are any rules of thumbs as to when to call after a first date, I'd sure love to hear them.

Well generally it's the three day rule. I never really agreed with it and I think calling the next day or even a text saying you had a great time is fine. That is of course if you really did. Don't be needy about it though. If you call and no answer don't persist constantly just leave a message and hope for the best from there.

It is nice to see the girl asking about the calling rules. I always thought this was up to the guy ;)
