Well I would say it depends on you and the girl. I think for a first date it is always best to do something simple and maybe short. Like getting coffee, lunch or dinner. So if it doesn't go well you don't have to spend hours with them but if it is going well it can last longer. A movie is not the best because you can't talk to them and see if you connect. If you go bowling, mini golf or pool you will be doing something so you may not really be able to really talk. I hope this is helpful.

The perfect first date is dinner. And a first date isn't meeting someone for the first time off the internet for coffee that isn't a date, that's an interview. Its where the couple goes after that interview that counts as the first date.

I agree that the first meeting from the Internet should not be the first date. For a first meeting, something short, under and hr, appetizers, comfy chairs and a quiet space to talk are all you need.
For a first date, it shouldn't be an over-the-top outing. The reason is, you want a girl to know you like her, but you also want her to know you don't splurge on women who you don't really know how well you like them yet.
So it should be simple yet lovely. A picnic is always nice. Candles if it is night time.
And i also agree that a board game is a great idea. It is an auto ice breaker.
